Bovines smuggling bids foiled, 9 cattle seized

POONCH/RAJOURI, Dec 14: Continuing crackdown on illegal activities, the police foiled several bovines smuggling attempts and rescued nine cattle in Rajouri and Poonch today.
An official spokesman said that a police party led by SHO Mendhar, Insp Ajiaz Ahmed Wani, successfully intercepted two vehicles, attempting bovine smuggling at the Sangrala Naka.
The operations resulted in the arrest of two bovine smugglers, seizure of two vehicles, and the rescue of four cattle.
In the first incident, one bovine smuggler was intercepted while illegally transporting bovines in a vehicle. Acting swiftly on specific intelligence, the police team stopped the vehicle and rescued the animals. A case under FIR No. 229/2024 has been registered at Police Station Mendhar, and further investigation is underway.
In the second incident, one more smuggler was apprehended while attempting to smuggle bovines in another vehicle. The police acted promptly, ensuring the safe rescue of the animals. This case has been registered under FIR No. 230/2024 at Police Station Mendhar.
Meanwhile, Rajouri police, under the supervision of Senior Superintendent of Police (SSP) Gourav Sikarwar, thwarted a bovine smuggling attempt and rescued five milch animals. The operation, was carried out by a police team led by SHO Rajouri Abid Shah.
During a naka at Irwan Kheter in the intervening night, the police team, led by IC PP City Rajouri, intercepted a Tata Mobile vehicle bearing registration number JK11A-7722. Upon checking, the vehicle was found illegally transporting five bovine animals.
The driver of the vehicle, identified as Zubair Ahmed, son of Mohd Shakoor, a resident of Mangal Naar, Manjakote, was arrested on the spot. The vehicle used in the smuggling attempt has also been seized.
A case FIR No. 548/2024 U/S 223 BNS and 11 PCA Act has been registered at Police Station Rajouri, and further investigation is underway.
