Bovine smuggling bid foiled, 14 animals rescued

REASI, May 9: Police today foiled an attempt of bovine smuggling and rescued 14 animals besides arresting one of the smugglers.
A Police party, led by SHO Reasi was on checking duty at Simbal Choa   around 0030 hours when they intercepted a truck, plying from Reasi towards Katra. On seeing the police party, driver of the said vehicle alongwith three other unknown persons fled away from the spot leaving behind the truck.
However, Police chased them and succeeded to nab one of the accused, identified as Mohd Sadiq of Kundran Reasi. During search, 11 cows and three bulls were found brutally tied with ropes and packed in the truck. Police rescued the animals and seized the truck.
On enquiry, the accused disclosed that they were taking the animals for illegally selling them in Kishtwar and had planned to go their via Katra-Udh-Kishtwar road.
