Family holds protest, magisterial probe ordered

KISHTWAR, July 20: A bovine smuggler escaped from police custody but unfortunately died due to fall into a gorge.
As per police sources, a man identified as Javed Ahmed Malik, son of Mohammad Khalil Malik, a resident of Baharat District Doda was arrested by Chatroo Police in FIR Number 26/18 under Sections 188 RPC and 3 PCA Act.
The accused was taken to medical examination today and when the cops were bringing him back to Police Station Chatroo, the smuggler managed to escape. As cops were chasing him, the accused fell into a gorge and died on the spot.
The body of the deceased was retrieved from the gorge and after conducting autopsy by the board of doctors, the body has been handed over to family members for last rites.
Meanwhile, the family members of the deceased along with relatives and locals held protest at Chatroo and alleged that the deceased died due to torcher in the police custody.
The protestors demanded immediate arrest of the persons behind the death of Javed Ahmed Malik as the deceased was not involved in any case.
After getting information, ADDC Imam Din and ACR Inderjit Singh along with police team led by SSP Abrar Chowdhary rushed to the spot and pacified the protestors by assuring them of magisterial probe into the incident.
On the assurance, the protestors dispersed.
When contacted, SSP Kishtwar Abrar Chowdhary told the EXCELSIOR that the deceased was involved in bovines smuggling case.
“The deceased escaped from the police custody after getting his medical examination done and when the cops were chasing him, he fell into gorge and died”, he said, adding that, a magisterial probe has been ordered into the incident and whosoever will be found guilty will be taken to task as per law.
