RAJOURI, Oct 16: Former Minister and MLA Rajouri Shabir Ahmed Khan has said that border area development was the priority of Congress Party.
Addressing series of public meetings in Doongi Garati area including Thathyali and Ponthal today, Mr Khan said that Congress Party was committed for the better development of the border and remote areas. For this purpose many Border Area Development Programme were launched by the previous UPA Govt at the Centre. He said that during recent rains and floods he remained with the Rajouri people and moved with them shoulder to shoulder during crisis. He also referred to the Pakistani firing along the LoC and said that people residing close to the border were suffering badly. He condemned the act of Pak forces.
The MLA also listened to the problems of the people from Doongi Garati area who have suffered during recent rains and floods. He assured the victims to take up their issue with the District Administration for the grant of relief and compensation.
He was accompanied by Sarpanch Sasalkote Yash Pal Sharma and other senior Congress leaders of the area. He asked the Congress activists to reach out to the people and apprise the public about the plans and policies of Congress Party. Khan said that only Congress Party can ensure better development. He said that granting of Block status to Doongi was major step towards development of the area. The MLA referred to the massive development witnessed during Azad’s time as Chief Minister in the State.
Prominent among others from the party present on the occasion included Sarpanch Raj Kumar, Sarfraz Khan Sarpanch Thathyali, BCC president Jagdish Sharma, Sain Rashid, Lalit Mahajan, Shamim Akhtar, Haji Farooq, Iftikhar Dar and Sushil Sharma.
