JAMMU, July 30: Maharishi Dayanand Sarswati Chair of Central University of Jammu (CUJ) here today released a book ‘Swami Dayanand Saraswati On Women’s Status And Emancipation’ written by Chair Professor, Raj K. Mahajan.
The book was released by Prof. Ashok Aima, Vice-Chancellor, CUJ while others present on the occasion were Prof. Devanand, Dean Academics; Dr. Ravi Kumar Bhat, Registrar; Prof. Sunil Dhar, Prof. Mushtaq Ahmed, Prof. Rasal Singh, Prof. Jaya Bhasin, Dr. Yashwant Singh, Dr. Bachha Babu and Dr. Parveen Kumari.
Speakers on the occasion said, Swami Dayanand Saraswati was a unique saint who was a nationalist, visionary, social reformer, as well as a revivalist.
“He struggled hard to bring equal opportunities between both males and females and amelioration of rituals which went against women’s freedom, emancipation, and empowerment,” they maintained.
A handout stated that focus of the present book is to study and expose the socio-economic position of women in the ancient period, the medieval period and in the nineteenth century and then highlight the role and efforts made by Swami Dayanand Saraswati to uplift women’s status.
