Body of terror outfit divisional commander found in Bandipora

SRINAGAR:
A self-styled divisional commander of terror outfit Hizbul Mujahideen, who was allegedly involved in a recent attack on a police team, was today found dead in Bandipora district of north Kashmir, police said.
His body was spotted in a stream by locals and was later fished out by the police. The militant is suspected to have drowned while trying to escape from security personnel, they said.
“The militant was involved in a number of attacks including the recent in Sopore. He was also involved in a number of killings, planting of IEDs and attacks on cellular towers in North Kashmir,” a police spokesman said.
“Some civilians of Gulabwari village of Sumbal spotted a body in Ferozpur Nallah (stream). The Police took the body into the custody and it was later identified as of Divisional Commander of Hizbul Mujahideen Tariq Ahmad Mir alias “Zahid Arif” of Adoora,” the spokesman said.
The Hizbul commander was one of the two militants who attacked a police party on July 31, injuring four policemen including a Station House Officer and had jumped into the nallah to evade arrest.
“In the evening of July 31, two militants who were boarding a vehicle fired upon naka party headed by Inspector Mohammad Saleem, SHO Police station Pattan at Mirgund,” he said.
“In this incident, the officer and three other Police personnel were injured. Immediately, after this incident, all the naka points on the roads were activated. One such naka party of Police and Army challenged the fleeing militants and one of the militants jumped into Ferozpur Nallah and got drowned,” the spokesman said. (AGENCIES)
