Body of 2nd missing boy recovered

Srinagar, Apr 27: The body of the second missing minor boy, who drowned after a boat capsized in the river Jhelum at Gandbal area of Srinagar on April 16, was retrieved today.
The body of the boy, named Farhaan Waseem, was seen floating in the river under the Cement Bridge at Noor Bagh after 12 days, alerting people and prompting authorities for retrieval.
“The body of the boy was retrieved near Noorbagh this morning and was shifted for medico-legal formalities,” officials said.

After the completion of all the formalities, the body was handed over to the family, following which he was laid to rest.
Scores of people attended the funeral prayers of the boy, bidding farewell to him with moist eyes.

Earlier on Friday, the body of another minor boy, Haziq, was found in the river Jhelum near Rajbagh after 11 days. The body was also retrieved and handed over to the family.
As of now, officials said that the body of one missing man, Showkat Ahmad, who was also on the boat which capsized, is yet to be found, noting that efforts are ongoing in this regard. “The rest of the missing bodies have been found,” officials said.
It is to be noted that earlier, six people died while three were missing after a boat capsized near the Gandbal area, sending shockwaves across Kashmir. Two bodies of school children have been recovered since Friday taking the death toll in the boat tragedy to 8.
