JAMMU, Apr 26: The state working committee meeting of the Bharatiya Mazdoor Sangh (BMS) today was held in Jammu with participation from members representing various parts of the Union Territory.
The meeting was presided over by state president Dev Parkash, while Sohan Lal, North India Organizing Secretary, attended as the keynote speaker.
Other senior functionaries, including the North India Deputy Organizing Secretary, were also present.
Proceedings began with the traditional lighting of the sacred lamp. During the meeting, members held detailed deliberations on a range of issues affecting the working class across Jammu and Kashmir. Key concerns discussed included the problems faced by midday meal workers, aanganwadi workers and helpers, PHE and other daily wagers, industrial labourers, project workers engaged in hydroelectric projects and employees in the public sector.
The committee passed several resolutions unanimously, prominently demanding revision of minimum wages in Jammu and Kashmir.
It was noted that wages were last revised in 2022 and in view of rising inflation, have lost relevance.
The BMS urged the Government to immediately initiate the process for revising minimum wages.
In another significant decision, the committee nominated senior advocate Ajay Gandotra as Legal Advisor of BMS.
The meeting also expressed serious concern over the alleged non-compliance of court orders by authorities under the Payment of Gratuity Act 1972.
It was highlighted that despite orders passed by the Controlling Authority for payment of gratuity to Aanganwadi workers, more than 200 cases are pending with District Magistrates and Collectors, who have not acted as per legal provisions.
In response, the BMS announced that it will organize dharnas and demonstrations outside the offices of various district collectors to press for implementation of court orders and justice for affected workers.
Among others who attended the meeting including Ashok Choudhary, deputy organizing Secretary North Zone, Neelam Sharma, general secretary, Harbans Choudhary, Sachin Bali, Bir Singh, Om Parkash, Ashfaq Ahmed Chouhan, Naseeb Singh, Vikas Khajuria, Chuni Lal, Shoba Sharma and Roshu Sharma.
