UDHAMPUR, Feb 23: As a part of NABARD’s regular interventions in the field of micro finance, Manohar Lal, DDM, NABARD, Udhampur today organized a bankers/BLBC members’ exposure visit to Self Help Groups (SHGs) in the district to have first hand exposure to SHGs.
The programme was held at village Laddan. Vidya Singh Negi, LDM, Udhampur, and various bankers were present on the occasion, apart from members of SHGs.
Addressing the gathering, the DDM informed that NABARD has taken initiatives in Udhampur district and has promoted SHGs in the rural areas with the help of NGOs. The recovery of loans is almost 100% in the case of SHGs promoted by NABARD in the district and it establishes the confidence of the banks in SHGs.
DDM shared that NABARD’s SHG-BLP is the biggest programme for financial inclusion as by opening an account of one SHG, the bank covers all the families of members of SHGs. The bankers were encouraged to finance the SHGs as the recovery is very good and it is a highly viable business activity for them apart from a way of women empowerment.
Then the bankers interacted with the members of the SHGs. The members, during the course of interaction with bankers, informed that they have been benefitted from the SHGs in many ways such as easy and timely availability of credit without actually visiting the bank, less paper work involved in availing credit, mutually agreed repayment system, better understanding among the SHG members, etc.
The members also informed them that the income level of their households has increased on account of income generating activities undertaken by them with the help of bank loans through SHGs which has resulted in better living conditions. Most of the members have availed loans for setting up mini dairy units.
