JAMMU, Sept 27: Continuing their demand for empowerment of Panchayats and condemning the brutal killings of Sarpanchs in the State, Bharatiya Janata Yuva Morcha (BJYM) held a demonstration against the Coalition Government. The protest was led by State President of BJYM, Munish Sharma.
During the protest, dozens of youth activists of BJYM assembled at Kachi Chawni, Main Chowk and raised slogans against the Coalition Government and in favour of implementation of 73rd and 74th Amendments of Indian Constitution in the State.
While talking to media persons Munish Sharma condemned the statement Chief Minister, Omar Abdullah who has said that 73rd and 74th Amendment cannot be implemented in Jammu and Kashmir and two Ministers in his Cabinet have also advised him not to implement these amendments.
Terming the statement highly irresponsible Munish Sharma asked the Chief Minister to disclose the names of those Congress Ministers. He criticized the double speaks of Congress on issues concerning the welfare of the State. He also held Congress responsible for sufferings on the people of all three regions of the state and said that it has been a long time now since the Panchayats have been formed in the State and still they have not been given the powers which Panchs and Sarpanchs are exercising in other States of the country. Like other States 73rd and 74th Amendment should also be implemented in Jammu and Kashmir. Raising the issue of brutal killings of Sarpanchs in the Valley, he lambasted the State Government for not providing adequate security to them. He said Panchayats are the basic institutions of democracy which play a vital role in the development of the State and they should be provided with adequate security.
