RAMNAGAR, Jan 1: Harshdev Singh, NPP chairman and former MLA today said that BJP’s rhetoric and divisive politics would not last long.
Addressing party supporters in Ramnagar and Majalta in various programmes, organized by local activists of the constituency, Harshdev Singh said that rhetorical overtures of the Prime Minister and his Cabinet colleagues overshadowed the developmental initiatives undertaken in the different areas. “People of the State, particularly Jammu region were taken for a ride due to exaggerated dissonance and loud pronouncements made by BJP’s central leadership,” he said and alleged that hundreds of crores of rupees were spent by saffron party in J&K in the form of chartered planes, helicopters and for promotion of election campaign in various forms besides abuse of official machinery by central leadership thus vitiating the very spirit of free and fair elections.
Claiming that dozens of crores of rupees were spent in each constituency by the Saffron party to influence the voters, Harsh wondered from where these funds had been procured. He ridiculed at the ceiling limit of maximum Rs 28 lakh set for each contesting candidate in the absence of ceiling prescribed for political parties that were spending dozens of crores in every constituency.
He sought ‘White Paper’ from Central and the State Government to publically disclose the sources of funds and the subsequent expenses incurred in the said elections by the BJP.
Questioning the sanctity of elections, Harsh also questioned the role of the independent observers and the Election Commission of India who were silent spectators to this ugly show of wealth. He was also skeptical about the future of Indian democracy which according to him would become a puppet in the hands of the few ‘Political Capitalists’.
Thanking the people of Ramnagar and Majalta for their overwhelming support, Harshdev Singh assured them that he would continue to serve the people of the area and always remain at their beck and call. He said that BJP’s rhetoric and divisive politics was a transitory phase and will not last for long.
Other who spoke on the occasion included Sukhdev Singh, Dev Singh, Shiv Ram Sharma, Pawan Dev Singh, Basharat Ali, Thakur Dass, Sagar Dev Singh, Rajesh Sharma, Kulbir Gupta, Sita Ram and Raghubir Singh.
