JAMMU, June 1: Provincial president of Jammu and Kashmir National Conference (JKNC), Rattan Lal Gupta has strongly countered the hollow and misleading allegations raised by BJP leader, stating that the issues being faced by the people of J&K today are a direct consequence of the dual governance system imposed after August 5, 2019 and the subsequent downgrading of J&K stable state into a Union Territory.
In a statement issued today, Gupta said that the allegations made by BJP leader that the people facing hardships in JMC, JDA and Housing Departments, all due to the flawed and centralized administrative structure that emerged post-2019.
He said that the Centre has vested excessive powers in the hands of the Lieutenant Governor (LG) by amending rules under the Jammu and Kashmir Reorganisation Act, 2019. This has not only crippled local governance but also made decision-making opaque and unaccountable.
Gupta asserted that the National Conference has consistently advocated for the restoration of full statehood to Jammu and Kashmir, seeing it as the only viable solution to the prevailing administrative disarray and chaos.
Taking a strong exception to Randhawa’s remarks, Gupta said it is ironic that BJP leaders, who are directly responsible for creating this mess, are now blaming the present dispensation. Instead of pointing fingers at the National Conference, BJP leaders should raise these genuine public concerns before their own party high command in Delhi, which has stripped J&K of its democratic powers and continues to run it through remote control.
He said restoration of statehood is the only remedy to end the bureaucratic apathy, revive democratic institutions, and ensure justice to the people of J&K.
