NEW DELHI, Jan 23: Union Minister of State (Independent Charge) for Development of North Eastern Region (DoNER), MoS PMO, Personnel, Public Grievances, Pensions, Atomic Energy and Space, Dr. Jitendra Singh said here today that the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) has, under the Presidentship of Amit Shah, made fast inroads in the North-Eastern States and now, people look up to the party as a viable alternative in election-going States including Assam.
He was talking to newly elected BJP State Presidents and party office bearers from Northeast who called on him here today, soon after their arrival at the union capital to participate in the election process of BJP National President.
Peritnent to mention that the current term of Amit Shah as BJP National President ends today and he is to file his nomination papers for a fresh term tomorrow.
Dr Jitendra Singh said, it is not a small achievement that in many of the North-Eastern States where, till few years ago, BJP was virtually non-existent, there is now a massive upsurge in the membership and several important leaders from other political parties are also vying to join BJP. Citing an example, he referred to the State of Sikkim where the party membership has exceeded the figure of 20000, whereas till some years ago, the total party strength was only in two figures.
Giving full credit to the Presidentship of Amit Shah, Dr Jitendra Singh said, while at the national level, BJP has become the largest political party, in Northeast it has emerged as a force to reckon with. This is the reason that even those States which were considered as Congress bastions for more than a decade, are now sensing a wind of change.
Wishing the new State Presidents and office bearers a successful term in office, Dr Jitendra Singh said, the people in the region are ready for a change and it is now for us, the workers and the leaders of BJP, to convince the massesr that we are capable of handling this change and providing a more fruitful alternative.
