JAMMU, Sept 15: BJP has taken serious note of the statement of former Jammu and Kashmir Chief Minister and president National Conference (NC), Dr Farooq Abdullah who has once again advocated for holding talks with Pakistan saying it is the only solution to end militancy in Jammu & Kashmir.
Strongly reacting to Dr Abdullah’s statement, BJP co convener J&K, Ashish Sood said that the statement of NC president goes against the national interests. “Dr Farooq’s statement is to keep his vote bank intact and appease his political constituency but it is totally against the national interests”, Sood added.
BJP general secretary and former Minister, Dr. Devinder Kumar Manyal, while reacting sharply to the statement of Dr. Abdullah reminded him that India had always been making sincere efforts to maintain cordial relations with Pakistan as a good neighbour but that country always back stabbed India.
The former Prime Minister, Atal Bihari Vajpayee had taken an initiative in 1999 and travelled to Lahore in a bus with the message of friendship but in reaction Pakistan further ignited the terrorist activities in J&K and country had to face Kargil war. Vajpayee again held peace talks with the then Military General, President Parvez Musharraf in Agra in 2001 but it also proved to be a futile exercise due to the indifferent attitude of Pakistan, as it was never serious to have friendly ties with India.
“How can one trust a country whose state policy has been terrorism”, questioned Dr. Manyal, adding that Dr. Farooq Abdullah must be aware that it is the Pakistan, which raised full-fledged military and proxy wars against India, whereas India only wanted to be in peace.
Senior BJP leader and former Minister, Bali Bhagat, has also strongly disapproved Dr Abdullah’s statement.
The former Minister underscored that the leaders of the so-called Gupkar Gang consistently appear eager to exploit any unfortunate event involving Indian security forces to criticize the Modi Government.
“They seem content to wait for the martyrdom of our brave soldiers to further their political agenda. They fail to acknowledge the significant improvements in the situation in Kashmir, such as markets remaining open till late night, ending an era of strikes, Bandhs and stone pelting culture after 33 years. Such improvements are a testament to the Government’s commitment to peace and development in the region,” he asserted.
