Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Dec 23: The BJP-RSS Coordination Committee today reviewed working of the first-ever PDP-BJP coalition Government in the State including performance of the BJP Ministers and stressed for maintaining close liaison with the party cadre to ensure that BJP-backed candidates win maximum seats in the upcoming elections of Panchayats in Jammu and Kashmir.
The Coordination Committee of BJP-RSS, which meets every month to discuss Government functioning, performance of the Ministers, efforts to strengthen the organization at grass-root level and other issues raised by the members, today met for about two hours and took up number of issues.
Insiders told the Excelsior that the meeting was attended by Union Minister of the State in the Prime Minister’s Office (PMO) Dr Jitendra Singh, Deputy Chief Minister Dr Nirmal Singh, top RSS leaders Romesh Puppa and Purshotam Dadeechi, BJP State president Sat Sharma CA, Ashok Koul, BJP general secretary (organization), Shamsher Singh Manhas and Jugal Kishore Sharma, both MPs and Narinder Singh, general secretary.
Sources said the Coordination Committee reviewed functioning of the State Government especially performance of the BJP Ministers and “by and large’’ expressed satisfaction on performance of both. However, the Coordination Committee was of the view that the BJP Ministers should attend to the people’s problems more effectively and ensure that Jammu and Ladakh regions don’t lag behind in the development works.
Sources said it has been the firm stand of BJP and RSS leaders that the Government should go for early Panchayat and Urban Local Bodies elections in Jammu and Kashmir as they have already been delayed due to which the people at grassroots were suffering. It was mentioned that even the Centre Government had to intervene to ask the State Government to hold Panchayat elections in the State.
The Coordination Committee observed that half of the term of the Government would be over on March 1, 2018 with completion of three years and it should give pace to development works and fulfill assurances given to the people. While Lok Sabha elections were due in the State in less than one and a half hour, the term of Assembly was still left by three years.
“The steps required to implement the ‘Agenda of Alliance’ including the BJP agenda were discussed in the Coordination Committee meeting and it was decided that the State Ministers should get them implemented,’’ sources said pointing out that after Rs 2000 crore relief package for Pakistan occupied Kashmir (PoK) refugees, the BJP now wants to address the issues of West Pakistan refugees and Kashmiri Pandit migrants especially the steps required for their permanent rehabilitation.
Issues of West Pakistani refugees and Kashmiri Pandits have always formed core agenda of the BJP and, according to sources, the Coordination Committee debated how to move ahead and get their problems addressed.
The dialogue process initiated by the Centre Government through Special Representative Dineshwar Sharma was also discussed. The issues the BJP and its allied organizations could project before Sharma during his upcoming visit to the State also figured.
The Coordination Committee decided to meet again next month.
After the meeting, RSS leader Romesh Puppa left on a week-long tour of Doda, Kishtwar and Ramban districts to discuss steps with local functionaries to further strengthen the organization.
