JAMMU, Jan 8: Former Minister and senior Congress leader, Sham Lal Sharma today said that BJP-PDP rule was the worst period for the State in which ongoing development works were either put on hold or were at snail’s pace.
“The BJP made so many promises like abrogation of Article 370, construction of Shri Ram Temple, settlement of PoK DPs and allotment of plots to border population but none of them were fulfilled,” the congress leader said while addressing monthly meeting of Block Congress Committee at Akhnoor.
He asked party workers to work hard with zeal at grass root level for the forthcoming parliament and assembly elections. He further said that elections of Lok Sabha and assembly elections can be announced at any time now. He exhorted them to ensure victory of the Congress candidates. He also cautioned them that the BJP workers will try to unleash the campaign of malicious propaganda against Congress party.
Sham said that all out efforts be made to expose them so that the innocent people are not befooled again as these elements did in previous election. He emphasized cadres to gear up for the 2019 Parliamentary and Assembly election to ensure that the divisive policies on the part of BJP are countered.
Describing the Congress Party as a unifying force in the Country and State, Sham said that it is the Congress Party alone which can counter the politics of exploitation by BJP, which is hell bent to divide people on communal lines for electoral gains.
He further said, “Parliament and Assembly elections are the core of democracy and it has proved beneficial for the general public as the people get a chance to choose their representatives at Parliament and Assembly level, who can mitigate their problems.”
The former Minister said that Congress party’s policies, working and public dealings have been widely accepted by the general public. He stressed on strengthening the “polling booth structure” in every segment across the length and breadth of the State.
