Ashok Kaul paying tributes to the martyr Kuldeep Verma recalled chain of events during the Amarnath Yatra land agitation. He said that since long, the region of Jammu has suffered due to the vicious campaign and policies that were set in motion by Sheikh Abdullah and as a result Jammu had to struggle hard for every single thing. He said that today due to all the sacrifices that have been made by these great men like Kuldeep Verma our efforts bore the fruit on the fateful day of 5th August 2019 when the Articles 370 and 35 (A) were abrogated.
Kaul said that we have to remember every day, the efforts of legends like Maharaja Hari Singh , the day of October 26, when he signed the Instrument of Accession. Every major decision we are able to witness today comes as a result of sacrifice by some great sons of soil, he added.
Sat Sharma said that the agitation during 2008 was based on strong sentiments of common masses. He said that the then regime tried to forcefully suppress the agitation by the patriotic people and with the ever increasing atrocities by the then Government and the administration, many precious lives were lost. He said that Kuldeep Verma who always lifted the spirits of people with his poetry sacrificed his life at such a crucial time that the agitation at once was beyond the control of the administration and dictators had to lay their arms in front of masses. He and other martyrs of land row in real sense gave a new turn to agitation.
