JAMMU, Mar 6: Strongly contesting the false propaganda unlashed by the opposition parties against the Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) that the party has failed to keep its promises made to the dwellers of border belt, Brig. (retd) Anil Gupta, State spokesperson of the party today said the reality is that these parties when in power used the border residents only as a vote bank by making promises that never materialised because they were false and meant purely for garnering votes.
Reacting sharply to a sinister campaign launched by certain vested interests, he said it is only BJP that has understood the pain and hardship of border residents and instituted measures for their uplift and well-being. In view of the imminent elections and shattered by the measures taken by BJP, these parties are now busy spinning falsehood to once again mislead and woo the innocent border dwellers to vote in their favour, stated Brig Gupta.
It is to the credit of BJP that individual and community bunkers are being constructed in all the three border districts. Compensation for loss of life or cattle including injuries has been increased manifold by the BJP. Damage to crops is covered under Kisan Bima Yojana. The border residents are now entitled to all benefits at par with the residents of LoC in case of cross border firing including the provision of Government job as per the SRO. This has also been made possible by BJP stated Brig Gupta while recounting the contribution of BJP in ameliorating the sufferings of the border residents.
The recent decision of the Government to include the border residents also in the benefit of reservation available so far only to the persons residing in the areas adjoining Actual Line of Control (ALC) is the proof of the sincerity of BJP in fulfilling the commitments made to them.
He said ironically, the same opposition parties who blame BJP for doing nothing for the border residents are opposing this decision of the Government. It clearly shows the lack of genuine concern for the border residents of these parties accused Brig Gupta.
Elaborating further, Brig Gupta stated that majority of the border dwellers are also West Pakistan refugees and those who belong to SC category as well and hence numerous decisions taken for the benefit of these communities are directly applicable to the border residents as well. Hence, the false propaganda unleashed by the opposition is an act of desperation and bereft of actual reality.
Brig Gupta appealed to the border residents to not to fall prey to the motivated propaganda of the opposition and carry out unprejudiced assessment to determine as to who is their genuine well-wisher.
