BJP must explain denial of ex-gratia to Jammu martyrs: NPP

Excelsior Correspondent
JAMMU, Sept 26: Former minister and National Panthers Party chairman, Harshdev  Singh has said that BJP needs to explain denial of ex-gratia to the martyrs of Uri terrorists attack, hailing from Jammu region.
In a press statement here, Mr Singh strongly  flayed the BJP for surrendering even the bonafide rights and claims of people of Jammu region. He lamented the denial of ex-gratia to the Army martyrs and neglect of Jammu region in the matter of SPOs recruitments. He said while people of Jammu region were seething with anger against this Govt for dis-respect to martyrs, the BJP leaders were making highly absurd statements to justify denial of ex-gratia to the martyrs.
The NPP leader said that the BJP’s justification for denial of ex-gratia to martyrs on the ground that Congress had also refused it for Sunjwan martyrs, was highly outrageous. He said that such an obnoxious statement of BJP was not only an insult to brave soldiers, when all other states had duly honoured their sacrifice, but had also turned the heat in Jammu into a furnace. He said that people of Jammu region,  civil society and even staunch supporters of BJP have strongly condemned such insensitive statements which were issued only to appease PDP.
Demanding immediate announcement of ex-gratia and SRO 43 benefits for NOKs of martyrs,  Harshdev announced to launch a full throttle campaign against BJP’s acts of surrender and subterfuge. He deplored that BJP  after attaining power dis-regarded the supreme sacrifices of national heroes.
Referring to the neglect of Jammu youth in the recruitment of 10,000 SPOs, Mr Singh lamented that it happened for the first time in history that all posts sanctioned for the state were assigned to Kashmir, ignoring Jammu and Ladakh. He termed it highly  discriminatory move.
Harshdev further added that with peoples’ anger having reached its crescendo, it was high time for the BJP to think on the promises made to the people of Jammu region, or get prepared to face public wrath.
