JAMMU, Oct 25: The Jammu and Kashmir Pradesh Congress Committee (PCC) has said that BJP should gracefully accept the worst ever defeat in BDC elections, as grass root representatives of people in the State have totally rejected the party and the outcome of BDC elections is that people have shown mirror to the BJP.
Expressing gratitude to the Sarpanchs and Panchs who have overwhelmingly rejected the BJP in the just concluded elections, PCC has said that the outcome of these elections in the absence of all major opposition parties is just a trailor and the real picture is waiting to come whenever general elections happen in the State in future. Addressing a joint press conference at party office today PCC vice president Raman Bhalla, chief spokesperson Ravinder Sharma and general secretary Manmohan Singh said that the BJP had desired to sweep these BDC elections, taking advantage of the situation when entire opposition was not in a position to take part. Knowing fully that opposition parties are not in a position to contest, the BJP got these elections announced on party basis whereas the basic elections were held on non-party basis.
They said the people saw through the BJP’s game plan and gave a severe drubbing to the party which faced worst defeat in the first ever BDC elections in the State, including in the Assembly Constituencies represented by the party’s top leaders, former ministers and MPs.
The PCC leaders said the mood of the people has been completely reflected from these elections that BJP’s deception, hollow slogans and diversionary politics won’t work to hoodwink the people, any longer as the BJP utterly failed to deliver on ground and the people are facing acute hardships on various fronts but BJP leaders continued to be indifferent and arrogant which have been fully rebuffed by the people. They said elections were held in the blocks in Kashmir having only three or five voters, as 12963 seats in Panchayats are vacant.
Expressing great satisfaction over the rising graph of party in Haryana and Maharashtra in the Assembly elections, Congress has said that the changing mood of the people in just few months of huge mandate to BJP in Lok Sabha elections, is a positive sign that people see Congress as an alternative to the BJP’s agenda of diverting the attention of people from the real problems confronting the people.
Strongly condemning the militant attacks on fruit traders and others in Kashmir, the PCC leaders expressed grave concern over these incidents in the wake of heavy security arrangements in the Valley. This shows the great challenge of militancy and matter of great concern. They termed these attacks as acts of cowardice and attempt to create fear amongst people.
