BJP MPs demand compensation for farmers hit by rains, hail

NEW DELHI: Some BJP MPs in Lok Sabha on  Friday asked the government to announce support measures for farmers who have been hit hard by unseasonal rains and hailstorm.

Ram Kirpal Yadav (BJP) said unseasonal rains and hailstorm have impacted farmers in Bihar.

“There was huge damage. Farmers are hit economically. I request that a team should be sent to Bihar to assess the situation and accordingly provide compensation,” he said.

Bharati Pawar (BJP) asked the Centre to urge Maharashtra government to extend the time period to deposit power bill as farmers have been hit by unseasonal rains and outbreak of coronavirus.

Raising the issue during Zero Hour, S P Singh Bagehl (BJP) said hailstorm has impacted potato farmers in Agra region.

“About 70 per cent of the potato field is impacted..They do not have Pradhan Mantri Fasal Bima Yojana. I request a special package to help farmers,” he said.

DD Uikey (BJP) too raised the issue A KP Chinraj (DMK) said poultry farmers have been hit by the outbreak of coronavirus.

Due to this, poultry farmers have not been able to pay their loans.

“In the last one month, these farmers have faced a loss of Rs 20,000 crore….I request the government to declare that chicken and eggs are not harmful for people,” he said. (AGENCIES)
