NEW DELHI, Apr 7: Terming the BJP Manifesto for the Lok Sabha polls a ‘web of lies’, the Congress today said the BJP is not serious about their manifesto. Criticising BJP’s vision document, Union Minister Anand Sharma questioned the seriousness of the BJP about fulfilling their manifesto.
The BJP today released its manifesto which promises reform of the tax system, give the federal structure a boost, carry out reforms in legal system, reform the Agriculture Produce Marketing Committee (APMC) Act and introduce insurance for farmers, introduce bullet trains and bringing internet to villages.
Mr Sharma, who is a senior spokesperson for the Congress, questioned BJP’s ability to rein in inflation. “BJP can check inflation if Modi’s diktat runs over international crude prices,” Mr Sharma said. The manifesto also expressed the BJP’s commitment to the building of a Ram Mandir. It also talks about the Ganga river and the cow, among other things.
Charging the BJP with using Ram Mandir to make it a political issue, Congress General secretary Digvijay Singh said, “In 2004, they promised to build a massive temple. Then they stopped talking about it. Now once again it’s up. “BJP has used Ram temple to make it a political issue.” Terming the BJP manifesto ‘confusing’, Mr Singh said, “The BJP is not sure whether to go towards an agenda of right wing fundamentalism or to go towards socialism.” The Congress leaders said the BJP manifesto ignored the healthcare sector which whereas the Congress manifesto laid down a plan to set it right.
Criticising the inordinate delay by the BJP in releasing its manifesto, Congress spokesperson Shobha Oza said, “It is unfortunate that a party which wants to run the country is releasing its manifesto when part of India is voting.” (UNI)
