JAMMU, Nov 15: The announcement of the name of three times Jammu Mayor, Kavinder Gupta as BJP candidate for Gandhi Nagar Assembly segment came as a rude shock to the supporters of another former Mayor and leader of Jat Sabha, Ch Manmohan Singh at a function at Hari Niwas Palace here this evening.
Ch. Manmohan Singh who had recently joined the BJP was also sharing the dais at a get-together function organized by Ajatshatru Singh, the former Minister and son of former Sadar-e-Riyasat, Dr Karan Singh with Kavinder Gupta during the function which was organized by Ajatshatru Singh. Soon the BJP candidate from Jammu West, Sat Sharma (CA) who was addressing the gathering on the occasion said that Kavinder Gupta’s name has been cleared as Party candidate from Gandhi Nagar constituency, the supporters of Manmohan Choudhary inside the hall shouted slogans in protest against BJP and left the hall. Later Manmohan Choudhary also left the dais while his supporters continued protest outside.
However the BJP leaders did not pay any heed to the same and function continued as normal. Later BJP incharge for J&K and MP Avinash Rai Khanna and State president and MP Jugal Kishore Sharma also joined the function.
Addressing the function Mr Khanna said that if BJP comes to power in the State its Government will bring J&K on international tourism map and boost the tourist industry in the State. The tourist centres will be opened right from Lakhanpur to Leh and J&K will be made economic hub of India, he added.
Mr Khanna said with boosting the tourism trade economic condition of the State will improve. It will also help in generating employment opportunities in the State, he added.
Reiterating that BJP will give State a fear free, corruption free and a transparent Government, Khanna said good governance and development will be the main poll plank of the Party.
He said people all over country are happy with six month rule of BJP as image of country has improved at international level.
Later talking to mailpersons Khanna said that BJP ‘s stand on Article 370 has been cleared by Prime Minister Narendra Modi during Hiranagar rally early this Summer that a country -wide debate be held on the issue and if the special status has benefited the State then it should remain and if not then it should go. So there should be no discussion on it, he added.
On one his Party candidate from Srinagar, Dr Heena Bhat’s statement opposing the abrogation of the Article 370, he said I will verify the facts from her.
On the statement of PDP MP, Tariq Hamid Karra that BJP was dividing majority community in Kashmir by fielding proxy candidates, Khanna said that this shows that PDP is seeing its defeat is certain.
Terming J&K an important State he said people are happy with policies of Mr Modi and they want to get rid of dynastic politics to take the State of path of progress and prosperity so they will certainly give vote for Party to accomplish its Mission 44+.
In his address BJP State president Jugal Kishroe Sharma while terming the joining of Ajat Shatru Singh into his party a great decision, said people of the State hold Maharaja Hari Singh in high esteem as whatever he did for the people of State could not be done by any one later.
Jugal said BJP with the support of Ajatshatru Singh will definitely fulfill the dream of Maharaja.
He while exuding confidence that BJP will form next Government in the State, said India’s image has improved after Modi took over as PM. Though survey has given 30 seats to BJP in the State the tally will definitely improve after Modi launches campaigning, he added.
Ajatshatru Singh in his address said that accomplishment of Mission 44+ is not a distant dream for BJP and it has decided to convert the same into Mission 50 +.
He said youth and women enmass voted for BJP and that was the main cause of Party’s landslide victory. He expressed the hope that they will repeat the same thing in Assembly poll in the State as there is a need for total change.
He said the State faced lot of trouble in past and for overall development the BJP Government is only alternative.
The function was also attended by BJP MLAs Prof Garu Ram and Bharat Bushan.
