BJP lodges dozens of complaints with EC on election day

JAMMU, Apr 18: State BJP lodged dozens of complaints with the Election Commission through Chief Electoral Officer, J&K, concerned Returning and Assistant Returning Officers of Udhampur-Doda-Kathua Parliamentary Constituency, which went to polls in second phase today against the concerned polling staff of some of booths and attempts of rigging by opposition parties.
It may be recalled that Union Minister, Dr Jitendra Singh is seeking his re-election from this Constituency.
The party in its complaint accused the polling staff of being biased, highlighted security related problems at some places, chaos among voters to identify their polling booths, misbehaviour with the party’s polling agents, and attempts on part of the Congress and other candidates and their supporters to create hurdles in the smooth conduct of the polling by miscreants promoted and aided by them.
BJP State secretary & Liaison Incharge with CEO and other authorities Rajinder Sharma, Udhampur-Doda-Kathua Constituency Legal and Liaison Incharge of the party Adv. Hunar Gupta along with Adv. Parimokesh Seth and Adv. Vageesh Gupta and State spokesperson, Balbir Ram Rattan, who were in constant touch with the party activists at booth level in entire length and breadth of the Constituency spread over a large area made the complaints on the basis of feed back received by them.
The party’s activists at the booth levels in their respective areas made complaints of intimidation and harassment by polling staff.
Every complaint related to the polling booth were forwarded to the CEO and the concerned Returning/Assistant Returning Officers, through phone, e-mails and fax demanding the immediate redressal of the complaints so as to ensure the “Maximum Participation of the People for greater democracy”.
However that the party also hailed the Election Commission of India, CEO J&K and Security forces for the safe & secure conduct of the two phases of the election in the State and appealed to the people of the State to ensure cent percent participation in the election process for healthy democracy.
