JAMMU, June 19: Pradesh Youth Congress general secretary Pankaj Basotra has challenged some BJP Ministers, who are allegedly pressurising the State Cabinet to implement the GST in the State to come forward and discuss the concept of the GST Act.
In a statement issued here today, Basotra said that the Centre Government is imposing GST on the traders in the haste, without educating the traders about its overall concept. They only want to remain in the good books of the Central leadership and only wish to introduce the GST in the State without any knowledge and concept.
The PYC leader further said that the people of the country and also those from J&K state are not against the introduction of the GST but firstly they want the knowledge and concept by organizing the training camps and discussions again and again at every nook and corner so that they learn the same and become ready to get the same implemented.
Basotra further said that majority of the traders and businessmen are uneducated and it is very difficult for them to implement the present system of the GST which has been imported from Canada and even the name, meaning and languages of the items introduced in the GST are totally new for the traders which cause huge harassment to the present business community.
He said that when the present ruling party was in the opposition then at that time they were fully against the implementation of the GST on the plea that the then Government should firstly educate the people about the GST and then implement the same even the then Modi who was Chief Minister of Gujarat had openly opposed the GST with the plea that this is the foreign concept.
He said no doubt after the implementation of GST in the state, there will be single tax on the people but the State Government is not abolishing the Toll tax at the entry point in the State. Basotra asked the Trade community to openly come against such double taxation system in the state and oppose the same as the BJP leadership is befooling the traders and the public.
