BJP leader defends anti-encroachment drive launched by Forest Deptt

JAMMU, June 15: BJP general secretary Dr Narender Singh has lambasted the separatists and Congress for misleading the people about the anti encroachment drive launched by the Forest Department on the directives of Forest Minister Bali Bhagat.
In a hard hitting statement issued here today, Dr Singh said it is unfortunate that Congress Party and separatists have found a common cause to attack the coalition Government which has tried to restore the forest land from the clutches of land mafia who are enjoying the patronage  of the Congress leaders.
Dr Singh said separatists who are trying to exploit the Gujjars and other nomads in the State on the issue are their worst enemies as these were militants owing allegiance to various separatist organizations who attacked the nomadic gujjars in jungles and in their bastis, harassed them and killed their members.
He said the Gujjars will be mainly benefited by restoring forest land from the clutches of land mafia as the nomadic people are totally dependent on forest land for grazing their cattle and sheep. Hence the step taken by the Government is not anti Gujjar but pro community.
Dr Singh also took serious exception to anti BJP campaign being launched by certain vested elements in Jammu on Tawi lake and AIIMS. He said it is BJP who always championed the cause of nationalist people and it will never betray them. Those who spread the canards about the BJP are working at the behest of Congress and other opposition parties and people should not respond the same.
