KARGIL, Sept 27: Haji Anayat Ali, Chairman Legislative Council J&K along with Haji Ghulam Mohd Senior Member and State Working Committee member BJP J&K called upon Farooq Khan, Advisor to Governor at Chutuk Heights, Kargil and put forth various demands of the people of Kargil in the form of a memorandum.
Ali on the behalf of the people of the Kargil (Ladakh), extended gratitude to the Government for the historic decision of granting Union Territory Status to Ladakh. Ever since the inception of NDA Government at the Centre under the dynamic leadership of Narendra Modi, the people of Kargil for the first time felt that the country do acknowledge their sacrifices and do care for them. And this was reflected in the bold and historic decision of August 5, 2019, he said.
Talking about the fact that Ladakh region has a distinct culture, geography, topography and history apart from a fragile ecosystem, with almost 95% tribal population and with the decision of making Ladakh new Union Territory, people of the region have some fears regarding the dilution of the distinct cultural and demographic features of the region, Chairman raised the demand of ‘Land Protection and Employment Safeguard Bill’, Declaration of Ladakh as Scheduled Tribe Area by including it in the Sixth Schedule of the Constitution of India & extension of special provisions granted to the North Eastern states of Assam, Meghalaya, Tripura and Mizoram to Ladakh, Special Development Package of Rs 1000 Crores for establishment of basic infrastructures, Conversion of the Cluster University of Ladakh into a full-fledged Central University, Inclusion of Kargil as Smart City, shifting of Kargil town to the Kurbathang Plateau which is presently allocated to the Indian Army, work on Zojila Tunnel, is yet to begin despite its foundation stone being laid by Prime Minister of India and work on Kargil Airport should be started as soon as possible in order to provide connectivity to the land locked region of Kargil.
The Advisor assured the delegation that he will personally take these issues on priority basis with the Centre Government and told that Granting of Union Territory for Ladakh is starting of a new Chapter in the development of Ladakh Particularly Kargil district.
Executive Councillor, CEC Kargil Mohd Ali Chandan, Mohd Hassan Pasha from BJYM, president MC Zaheer Hussain Babar, Mohd Hussain, Assadulah Munchi, Ashraf Hussain, Javed Haji and Ahmad Hussain also accompanied.
