JAMMU : As the controversy raked up over the announcement of AIIMS in Jammu and Kashmir, the BJP today said the prestigious institution will be set up in Jammu while the mainstream Opposition National Conference welcomed it for Kashmir Valley.
”Some parties are trying to politicise the issue of AIIMS, but I want to assure people that it will be set up in Jammu and BJP is committed for it,” Jugal Kishore Sharma, BJP state president and Member Parliament here told mediapersons.
Mr Sharma said a team of MLAs and MPs from Jammu had recently met Union Health Minister J P Nadda and submitted him the proposal, adding, ”he had assured us that AIIMS like institute will also be sanctioned for Jammu region”.
Making an appeal not to observe Bandh tomorrow over AIIMS issue, the MP said, ”We understand the sentiments of the people and respect them but people should have faith in the BJP. We assure that it will soon be announced for Jammu.”
Union Home Minister Rajnath Singh would be visiting here tomorrow while a shutdown call has been given by the Jammu Bar Association supported by various stakeholders over AIIMS and artificial lake issues.
National Conference, meanwhile, today ”welcomed” announcement of AIIMS for Kashmir region.
”We welcome the decision of establishing AIIMS in Kashmir,” Devendra Singh Rana, NC provincial president and MLA Nagrota told mediapersons here. However, he added that similar facility should also be extended to Jammu and Ladakh.
Mr Rana, meanwhile, criticised BJP for not being clear on Article 370.
Mr Rana also criticised PDP-BJP government for not being serious with the works and addressing the issues of the people such as ”bijli, sadak, paani”. On Defence Minister Manohar Parrikarâ’s remarks, terrorists for neutralising terrorists, Mr Rana retorted, ”How could a Defence Minister make such an irresponsible statement? Are they planning to create another Pakistan or planning a civil war in the country”.
