KATHUA, Sept 6: Bharatiya Janata Party (BJP) candidates for Hiranagar and Basohli Assembly constituencies filed their nominations before the concerned Returning Officers (ROs) today.
While Advocate Vijay Sharma filed his nomination for the Hiranagar constituency before the Returning Officer in the presence of Union Minister Dr Jitendra Singh, Darshan Singh submitted his nomination papers before the Returning Officer in Basohli with former MP Shamsher Singh Manhas and DDC Chairman Col Mahan Singh.

Accompanying Sharma, Dr Jitendra Singh led a rally from Samadhi Sthal Hiranagar to the Returning Officer’s office, where supporters raised slogans in favor of the BJP.
Addressing a gathering after the nomination filing, Dr Jitendra Singh spoke about the historical significance of Hiranagar in the fight against Article 370 and the legacy of Dr Syama Prasad Mookerjee, who died in police custody while protesting the J&K Government’s policies.
He praised the abrogation of Article 370 in 2019, which restored rights to various communities and criticized the National Conference and Congress for supporting its restoration.
BJP candidate Vijay Sharma thanked the crowd for their support, urging them to vote for him on October 1.
He accused the Congress and NC of pushing a separatist agenda and praised Prime Minister Modi’s policies for restoring peace in J&K.
In Basholi, after filing his nomination, candidate Darshan Singh participated in a rally at Ramlila Ground.
Former MP Shamsher Singh Manhas highlighted the developmental projects initiated by the Central Government under PM Modi.
He promised to focus on the development of Basholi and preserve its famous art and culture.
