JAMMU, Apr 5: The BJP activists from Jammu Rural led by district president, Omi Khajuria and district general secretary, Pawan Salathia today protested in front of DC office Jammu for delay in payment of compensation for the land under the occupation of Army in the Jammu rural belt.
The protesters raising slogans against the district administration warned that they will launch agitation in case the payment was not released within five days.
Omi Khajuria alleged that the payment has been since received by the Revenue Department from Army but they were not releasing the same under malicious and malafide intensions. He also demanded a probe that why the Revenue authorities are keeping payment pending with them.
He said despite the directives of Deputy Chief Minister, Dr Nirmal Singh to DC Jammu yesterday that the delegation of district rural office bearers will meet him tomorrow in connection with land compensation and the DC had given the time of meeting him, he was not available in the office.
He said the delegation had to wait for a long time and when the authorities did not bother to meet him, the party men resorted to protest against the administration. Later DC called them and issued instructions to concerned officers to get the files cleared immediately.
However, the BJP activists warned the administration that they will launch agitation in case the files were not cleared within five days. Khajuria said that compensation amounting to several crores of rupees is pending with Revenue Department for two years now. He said four elders over the years died in road accidents while visiting the revenue offices for release of compensation and the authorities are still unmoved.
The others who took part in the protest included Narinder Singh Jamwal, Ramesh Chander, Jeet Raj, Shashi Pal, Banarsi Lal, Sohan Lal, Ram Gopal, Rakesh Khajuria etc.
