NEW DELHI, Jan 14: Prof. Bhim Singh, senior executive member of the Supreme Court Bar Association today vehemently advocated for the Enforcement of Advocates Act, 1961 to democratize the Bar Council of J&K to bring J&K Bar Council at par with all other State Bar Councils in the country.
While addressing a special meeting of advocates at the Auditorium of Delhi Bar Council today, Prof. Singh said.
“There is no Bar Council in J&K and so-called Bar Council of J&K is headed by the Chief Justice as ex-officio, being the Chief Justice and the Judges of the High Court act as members. The Advocates Act 1961 has been enforced with the result that thousands of lawyers in J&K have remained denied of sharing their democratic rights being integral part of the union.”
He sought the support of the Bar Council of India in this regard so that the elite class may also share the democratic process in J&K and feel the pulse of Indian democracy.
Earlier, Prof. Singh, received memento from the president of Delhi Bar Council on behalf of the Supreme Court Bar Association.
