JAMMU, Mar 8: Inhabitants of block Bhalwal under the banner of KandI Belt Movement today held a protest demonstration against the Jammu Municipal Corporation (JMC) for dumping garbage at Bhalwal near Degree College Mishriwala.
“The area is highly populated and the dumping of garbage there is in violation of waste management as well as Pollution Control Board rules”, the protesting people alleged amid shouting slogans against JMC and concerned MLA, Bali Bhagat.
While addressing the protesters, KD Singh, chairman, Kandi Belt Movement, said that people of Kot-Bhalwal and adjoining villages have been protesting for last about a month against the illegal dumping of garbage by JMC but instead of listening to their issue, the administration is hell bent to suppress their voice, the glaring example of which is police lathi-charge on peacefully protesting people, yesterday, in the presence of ADC Jammu, SDM Jammu North and Joint Commissioner JMC.
He alleged that garbage dumping is very likely to result in break of epidemic like cholera, TB, etc, besides resulting into migration of people of the adjoining villages and colonies. He threatened to intensify the ongoing stir if the Government failed to take notice of the people’s demand.
Ram Mohammad (Advocate), Deep Dayal, Kulwant Singh Manhas, Chanchal Sharma, Vikram Singh and many others addressed the protesters.
