JAMMU, June 9: For providing adequate drinking water facilities to Shomali Mohalla, Peer Baba Basti, Reyan Mohalla, Chatha in old Satwari and its adjoining areas people, Minister for Housing, Horticulture and Culture Raman Bhalla on Sunday dedicated 15000 gallon per hour discharge capacity deep drill tube well and 50000 gallon Ground Service Reservoir (GSR) to the people of the localities.
After dedicating the tubewell, the Minister addressed a large gathering and said the deep drill tubewell has been completed under Water Supply Scheme Old Satwari Chatha at an estimated cost of Rs. 2 crore. He said that tubewell would improve the drinking water supply of about 10000 souls of the old Satwari Panchayat.
Mr. Bhalla directed the PHE engineers to lay water supply pipes in the uncovered areas of the Panchayat so that the inhabitants do not face any inconvenience. He said Government was committed to provide adequate drinking water supply in water supply deficit areas of the state by digging hand pumps and deep drill tubewells. He said during the last four and half years of present regime, Government has spent about Rs. 250 crore to dig the 25 tubewell including laying of water supply pipes in 52 kilometer area of his home constituency under PHE and ERA sectors.
Appreciating the efforts made by the PHE authorities in completing the vital project in old Satwari Panchayat which was handed over to people today for their use, he asked the officers to pay regular visits to the areas of their responsibility and solve the drinking water supply problem without any delay. He said that ‘it is the duty of the Government to provide adequate drinking water facility during summer in scorching heat areas of the State.
Mr. Bhalla further informed that Central Government headed by UPA chairperson Sonia Gandhi and Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh has launched various welfare schemes to upgrade the living standard of the economically weaker sections of the society.
Later, the Minister also dedicated multipurpose community hall to Boria biradari people at Qasim Nagar. The hall has been completed by Jammu Municipal Corporation at an estimated cost of Rs. 10 lakh.
At Mahakali temple in Bahu Fort premises, Mr. Bhalla released ‘Bawe-wali Mata bajan cassette ‘Nach Nach Pony Aai Tamal’ prepared and sung by Lucky Sagotra, Kumar Gourav, Kailash Anmol of Bahu Fort.
