RAJOURI, Mar 8: The traditional Jhanki of Bhairon Bawa was taken out in Jawahar Nagar area and other localities of Rajouri town today as a part of Holi festival celebrations.
As a part of seven-day long Holi celebrations, the people of Rajouri town and adjoining areas including youth and children participate with great enthusiasm and zeal in the rally. The people believe that those persons are lucky who receive a pat from Bhairon Bawa during this annual `Jhanki’.
The rally which started from Bhairon Nath Mandir at Mohalla Naban after special Pooja, passed through Tehsil area, main markets and finally culminated at Bhairon Mandir near Sanatan Dhram Sabha Rajouri. A large number of people participated in the Jhanki. Two drum beaters were also part of Jhanki and the youth were seen dancing on drum beats.
The origin of this traditional Jhanki is connected with the famine in the area. This appearance of Bhairon in his form is considered as mark of prosperity and well being in the area.
Meanwhile, similar Bhairav Jhanki was taken out in Jawahar Nagar area which was started from Bajrang Dal Akhada and after passing through main market of Jawahar Nagar, Panja Chowk it culminated at same location. Hundreds of youths were seen dancing with Bhairav Nath and many females were seen enjoying the Bhairav Jhanki from roof tops of shops and houses.
Bhairav Jhanki Committee members from Jawahar Nagar and main Rajouri City extended gratitude to the police and district administration for better security arrangements for the Jhanki. They said that people of Rajouri town are carrying on with the practice of ‘Bhairon Jhanki’ for the last over 100 years.
