NEW DELHI, Feb 15 : “Na koi aahat, na koi chaya, na koi sanket, na koi kaya? main kaal nahi, kaal ka vidhaan hu? Bhairav naam nahi pehchaan? Shatru ke anth ka thos parinam? Bhairav-naam nahi parinaam.”
Bearing these strong, evocative lyrics, showcasing the lethal edge of the newly raised Bhairav Battalion, the Indian Army on Saturday released a gripping nearly four-minute video featuring a commanding voiceover by Amitabh Bachchan.
Shared by the Additional Directorate General of Public Information (ADGPI), the video projects the Bhairav as a specialised light commando unit engineered for swift, high-impact and lethal missions across diverse and challenging combat environments.
The lyrics featured in the video have been provided by the social media section of ADGPI, further reinforcing the formation’s identity and operational ethos.
As the verses play, the montage unfolds with striking visuals of heavily armed soldiers advancing in tactical formation across rugged terrain. Their faces are camouflaged, equipment battle-ready, and movements deliberate. Close-up shots show troops carrying assault rifles as they manoeuvre with precision through mountainous and semi-forested landscapes, indicating readiness for operations in challenging border areas.
The footage transitions into coordinated field drills, with soldiers swiftly taking firing positions, covering sectors, and communicating through hand signals, highlighting discipline, cohesion, and small-team combat tactics. Glimpses of heavy weapon systems and support elements positioned strategically point to integrated infantry operations designed for high-intensity scenarios.
Explaining the concept behind the formation, an army officer associated with the concept said, “The Bhairav Infantry is not conventional infantry, and I would not term it Special Forces in the traditional sense. It is a special force created for specific effects, to deliver precise operational outcomes.”
Referring to the visuals, the officer noted, “You can see our troops manoeuvring confidently across all kinds of terrain, through aerial insertion, over water, and on land using vehicles and helicopters. The idea is to demonstrate the flexibility and adaptability of the Bhairav in any environment.”
Detailing the weaponry and equipment displayed, the officer said, “The video shows the deployment of a full spectrum of weapon systems, from pistols and carbines to AK-203 rifles, light machine guns, rocket launchers, and drones. The emphasis is on integrated firepower, mobility, and technology-driven warfare.”
On the tactical side, the officer added, “You will notice house intervention drills, close-quarter battle techniques, patrolling formations, and coordinated team movements. If you analyse the footage frame by frame, you will also see the integration of a guard dog squad, which enhances tracking and area-dominance capabilities.”
The soundtrack and lyrics, written to reinforce the formation’s identity, carry a deeper message. “Bhairav is not just a soldier; Bhairav is a system,” the officer said. “It is about the ability to blend with the surroundings, to use the environment, and to become a lethal force within it.”
Explaining the metaphors used in the lyrics, the officer remarked, “Words like ‘Sarpsa Bodh’ and ‘Vanshi Chetna’ symbolise stealth and awareness, the capability to become like a snake in the jungle, silent and alert. Bhairav is formless in that sense; it can adapt to any setting and produce ‘Parinam’, the result.”
Summing up the message of the video, the officer emphasised, “Bhairav is not just a name. It is an identity. It stands for capability, and above all, it stands for results.”
Conceptualised to bridge a critical operational gap, the Bhairav Battalion provides field commanders with a mission-ready formation capable of undertaking reconnaissance, targeted strikes, and high-risk operations without drawing heavily on specialised Special Forces units.
This approach allows elite formations to focus on strategic tasks while Bhairav units handle time-sensitive, tactical-level engagements. Each battalion comprises nearly 250 carefully selected and intensively trained personnel drawn from various arms of the Army.
Troops undergo rigorous commando-style preparation that sharpens their mobility, physical endurance, and close-quarter battle skills. Equipped with modern assault rifles, advanced surveillance tools, and drone-enabled systems, the Bhairav Battalion integrates technology into frontline operations.
Real-time intelligence gathering, precision engagement capability, and counter-drone measures form a core part of their operational doctrine, positioning the unit to respond effectively in hybrid and technology-driven warfare scenarios.
Strategically deployed near sensitive border regions and key operational sectors, the compact structure of the battalion allows for swift mobilisation during emergencies, heightened border tensions, or limited conflict situations. (UNI)
