BGSBU organizes national seminar on ‘Future of Arabic Language in 21st Century’

JAMMU, May 4: The Depart-ment of Arabic, Baba Ghulam Shah Badshah University with financial assistance from NCPUL MHRD, New Delhi, organized a two day national seminar on ‘Future of Arabic Language in 21st Century’.
It was organized mainly to discuss the challenges facing this classical language with rich heritage internally and externally in the form of colloquial gaining ground, trying to encroach the standard language and the globalisation which is imposing its own language and culture so much so that the Arabs are adopting foreign languages at the cost of their own mother tongue.
To discuss this growing phenomenon around thirty delegates from Jamia Millia Islamia, Jawahar Lal Nehru University, Universtiy of Kashmir, Islamic University of Science and Technology Avantipora, Aligarh Muslim University, Barkatullah University, Bhopal, GDC Shopian, GDC Thanna Mandi, GDC Rajouri, HEM College Rajouri, faculty and scholars of BGSBU participated in the seminar and presented their scholarly papers. The seminar comprised inaugural, valedictory and four technical sessions.
The Seminar was started with an introduction of the topic and welcome address by the Head of Department Dr. Shams Kamal Anjum. The occasion was graced by the Dean Academic Affairs Prof. A.K.Koul, Dean School of Mathematical Sciences and Engineering Prof. M. Asgar, Dean School of Biotechnology Prof. G.H. Dar, Heads, officers and faculty members from different departments of the University.
Dr. Abdul Majid Qazi, a senior professor in the Department of Arabic Jamia Millia Islamia and a renowned scholar of Arabic delivered keynote address.
The Vice Chancellor BGSBU Prof. Javed Musarrat in his message congratulated the department for organising two day national seminar and directed the deptt. to engage the students with such type of academic activities along with the class room teaching.
The Dean Academic Affairs Prof. A K Kou,l also spoke on the occasion.
Dr. Liyaqat Nayyar presented the vote of thanks.
