BDC chairman shot dead

Srinagar, Sept 23: Block Development Council Chairman of Khag in district Budgam was shot dead near his ancestral residence at Dalwash village in the Central Kashmir’s Budgam district late this evening.
Inspector General of Police Vijay Kumar told Excelsior that BDC chairman Bhupinder Singh left two PSOs in Police Station Khag in Budgam district and left ancestral home alone without informing Station House Officer Khag.
Singh used to stay at Aloochibagh in Srinagar and had gone to Khag today. He had contested election independently but was supported by People’s Democratic Party (PDP).
A massive operation was launched in the area and security forces are looking for the killers of Singh.
Militants early in the day fired upon security forces in main town Pulwama.
However in this incident no loss of life or injury has been reported so far. The area was cordoned off and hunt was launched against those responsible for the attack.
Meanwhile, Lieutenant Governor, Manoj Sinha has strongly condemned the killing of BDC Chairman from Khag Budgam,Bhupinder Singh.
The Lt Governor has expressed anguish over the killing and said that the heinous act is an attempt to spread fear and vitiate the atmosphere of peace and progress. He said there can be no justification for such attacks.
The society does not have any space for perpetrators of violence and those involved in this cowardly act shall be brought to justice, he added.
In a condolence message, the Lt Governor has conveyed his deepest sympathies to the bereaved family and prayed for eternal peace to the departed soul.
