Batwal Association demands economic package for community

JAMMU, June 9: At a meeting held here, Jammu and Kashmir Batwal Welfare Association has urged the Prime Minister Dr Manmohan Singh to sanction a Special Economic Package in favour of Batwal community on the basis of its ethnographic study undertaken by the Planning Commission of India in the year 1994.
Addressing a meeting of the Association, its president Sat Pal Lakhotra said that the Government while conducting the said study had assured that all efforts would be taken to uplift the Batwal people from a state of utter degradation. But even after the lapse of 29 years, no step has yet been taken by the Government to enhance their economic position, he rued.
Prominent among those who attended the meeting included Capt Raja Ram Kaith, Capt Kamal Chand Motan, Capt Om Parkash Taga, Sub Maj Gunni Ram Kaith, Sub Maj Thoru Ram Mandi, Baldev Chand Sandhu, Panch Nirmal Kumari, Panch Narayan Dass Beas, R L Kaith, O P Sargotra, Mela Ram Taga, Waryam Chand Motan, Rashpal Chand Beas, Lal Chand Sandhu, Lal Chand Motan, Amar Nath Kaith, Uttam Chand Sandhu, Bua Ditta Kaith, Saran Dass Kaith, Sarsa Ram and Ram Singh.
