KISHTWAR, Mar 21: After remaining closed for five consecutive days, the vehicular movement on 110 kilometers Batote-Doda-Kishtwar highway connecting Jammu and other parts of the State is likely to be restored tomorrow.
On the fifth consecutive day, hundreds of vehicles remained stranded on highway due to landslide at Kuligarh near Drabshalla.
Concerned authorities with men and machinery started the work to restore the vehicular movement on the highway and removed the landslides late night.
“Batote-Doda-Kishtwar NH1B remained closed for four consecutive days due to landslides at Kuligarh area near Drabshalla”, a traffic police official said, due to landslides and boulders, around 25 meters stretch of the road got washed away and the restoration work was started.
The landslides were cleared today late night and the vehicular movement on the highway will be restored tomorrow.
A police official said that as the highway remained closed for the five consecutive days, the petrol pumps in Kishtwar district remained dry. The vehicles carrying essential commodities including vegetables, fruits, ration, petrol and diesel remained stranded on the highway, due to which the people living in district Kishtwar were facing manifold problems and held protest in Bus Stand Kishtwar, he added.
As the vehicular movement will be restored on the highway tomorrow, the people will have some sigh of relief from the ongoing situation in the district.
