Barring 1 all 799 held in J&K released, 4 inquiries ordered

SRINAGAR:  Barring one, detained under the Public Safety Act (PSA), all 799 persons arrested in various incidents in Kashmir valley from January 2015 to January this year, have been released.

The government has ordered four Magisterial inquiries in militancy-related incidents during the period in the valley, Chief Minister Mehbooba Mufti, who also hold Home portfolio, said in the Legislative Assembly today.

In reply to a question by Ali Mohammad Sagar, Ms Mufti said 799 persons of various age have been arrested in various incidents (alleged stone pelting and anti-national activities) in Kashmir valley during the period.

The highest number of 337 youths were arrested in summer capital. Srinagar, followed by Shopian 122, Pulwama 89, Anantnag 86, Baramulla 70,  Kupwara 34, Ganderbal 22, Badgam 15, Kulgam 13, Bandipora 10 and Jammu one.

The Chief Minister said all have been released except one, who has been booked under PSA.But the name of the person detained under PSA was mentioned in the reply.

Sources said he was Shabir Ahmad Shah, a Muslim leader in Jammu. (AGENCIES)
