Baramulla traders protest against lack of development

Srinagar, Nov 30: Traders in Baramulla Town of North Kashmir today protested against the alleged negligence of Government and lack of development.
Scores of traders under the banner of ‘Beopar Mandal’ Baramulla assembled in Main Chowk this morning and shouted slogans against the lack of development in the Town. Holding banners and placards, the traders marched to the Deputy Commissioner’s office where they resorted to massive sloganeering.
Speaking to reporters, the General Secretary of Mandal Tariq Ahmad Mugloo said that the Baramulla Town, which once had significant place in Asia, has been subjected by “political exploitation”. He said: “During the tenure of previous coalition, we met the then Chief Minister Omar Abdullah and his other ministers and presented memorandums as well as list of demands. But they ignored us, saying Baramulla is the constituency of Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) and Muzzzaffar Hussain Beigh.”
Mugloo said soon after PDP came into power this year, they were hopeful that the issues of the Town would be addressed but alleged that this regime too has turned a blind eye towards them. “We met Chief Minister, Finance Minister, Health Minister, Roads and Buildings Minister, Chief Secretary and Divisional Commissioner but all in vain. At the end of the day we are being subjected to political exploitation,” he said.
He said the main demands of the traders and people of the Town include restoration of SRTC Bridge and streamlining of traffic. “Furthermore, Rs 2 crore which were announced for Mother Child Hospital (MCH) Baramulla should be released. Also, there is no car parking in the Town and zero cleanliness,” he said.
Threatening to lock the Government offices, Mugloo said: “We are not seeking any favour but the government is duty bound to accept our demands as we are tax payers. We will not go for strike if our demands are not met but we will lock all these government offices and hit streets.”
