BARAMULLA, May 18: In a welfare initiative to reach poor and deserving section of the society, district administration Baramulla today started a special drive wherein the deserving families shall be supported on the forthcoming festival of Eid.
Starting the initiative, Deputy Commissioner Baramulla, Dr G.N Itoo distributed 500 ration kits containing food items among the poor and needy people.
Speaking on the occasion, the DC said, about 5000 poor and deserving families shall be covered in this drive so that they are able to celebrate the festival of Eid without any difficulty.
He said, in the ongoing lockdown implemented in view of COVID-19 pandemic, the labour class especially vendors, auto drivers and others suffered badly from the economic point of view and all the identified beneficiaries shall be covered before Eid.
Meanwhile, DC said that administration in collaboration with Social Welfare Department has mobilized some NGOs who played a very positive role at this critical juncture.
He urged upon these NGOs to play a pivotal role in their respective domains so that deserving people are assisted under these circumstances.
