JAMMU, Nov 24: Forest Department seized 7 bags of banned forest produce banfashan.
As per official spokesperson, on specific information regarding smuggling of forest produce in a bus from Ramnagar to Jammu, Forest Department and Forest Protection Force jointly laid a naka at Nagrota Forest Check Post and intercepted the bus bearing registration number JK02AU-5857.
During checking, forest staff recovered 7 bags Banfashan (Viola odorata), an important forest produce from the bus and detained the driver Satish Kumar, son of Hans Raj and cleaner Sanjay Kumar, son of Badri Nath, both residents of Ramnagar. The bus was also seized on the spot.
Forest staff headed by Varinder Singh, Range Officer Jammu in presence of Dr VS Senthil Kumar, Divisional Forest Officer Jammu, Suresh Sharma, Deputy Director Forest Protection Force Jammu conducted the operation.
During preliminary enquiry, it came to fire that the forest produce was packed in gunny bags sent by Vicky Company from Udhampur to deliver it to M/s Madan Lal Sanjeev Kumar Kailoo, Kanak Mandi Jammu.
A detailed enquiry in this regard has been initiated to ascertain the network of smugglers involved in this case and both the smuggler and buyers will be booked for violation of Forest Act.
Meanwhile, an encroachment attempt was made by some people in Compartment No.60/Bajalta area at Challni Link Road. After getting the information the Range Officer Bahu deputed Block Officer Bajalta alongwith anti-encroachment team to remove the encroachment. The Forest team reached the spot and seized the JCB, which was operated by driver Yash Paul Sharma, son of Bansi Lal of Akhnoor for encroaching the forest land. The forest land approximately 2.5 kanal was leveled by the JCB and was stopped immediately.
An inquiry into the incident has been initiated under relevant Sections of Law.
