JAMMU, Mar 29: As a part of two days’ country wide strike programme, the bank employees under the banner of All India Bank Employees Association, the largest national trade union of banks representing officers and workmen from PNB, JK Bank etc observed two days strike across the region and held protest demonstrations.
A large number of employees held strong protest demonstration at PNB Circle office building complex at Bahu Plaza, Jammu today, opposing Government move to privatise nationalized banks which was announced by the Union Finance Minister in the recent budget speech.
The speakers during protest pointed out that during 1969, 14 banks were nationalised and in 1980, six more banks in the country were nationalized. There after the banking network was strengthened and reaches rural areas as well. The savings of the common people were mobilized. Agriculture and Industrial sectors were also provided massive support.
But unfortunately, with the announcement of BJP Government regarding privatisation of the banks, there will be dangerous consequences. It will destroy the public sector in the country. Strong public sector industry would go into the private hands clandestinely.
They said the Public sector Banks over the years played a vital role in the growth of the country. They have functioned as role model in implementing various Govt sponsored schemes and programmes like Jan Dhan Yojna, Mudra Loan Scheme, Atal Pension Yojana and many more.
As per latest report under PMJDY 44.23 crore accounts were opened out of which 97 % accounts are in Public Sector banks and regional Rural Banks and merely 3 % in private banks. This data gives the clear picture of the performance of the private banks. With such a dismal performance on the socio-economic front , can these private banks be trusted to bring about the desired economic revolution in the country.
Prominent among others who spoke on the occasion included- Davinder Kumar, Ganesh Sharma, Gangpreet Singh and Ajay Sharma.
