Bank employees hold protest; demand early, respectable wage revision

JAMMU, May 24: Deman-ding early and respectable wage revision, a large number of bank employees held protest, here today.
The bank employees under the banner of United Forum of Bank Unions (UFBU) assembled at Bahu Plaza, here and held demonstration.
While speaking, Suresh Wali, State Secretary, All India Bank Officers Confederation (AIBOC) J&K, castigated the Government and IBA for unfair and unjust treatment towards the bank employees who are working under difficult conditions to keep the economy of the country on a progressive path.
He said that all the economic programs of the Government are being launched through banks and the bank employees have to work day and night to achieve the targets set by the Government and the Bank Management.
“Bank employees have to meet both the social obligations set out by the Government and the commercial targets fixed by the Bank Managements, but when it comes to demanding our rightful and justified increase in wages, we have to remind the Government and IBA of profits and paying capacity”, he added.
He further said that every employer is lawfully bound to pay a decent wage to its employee, keeping in view the all-round environment. This, he said, was the basic premise on which all Central Pay Commissions (CPCs) were based.
He said that the banking fraternity is demanding that the same principle should be applied while deciding the wage increase in Banks. He further elaborated that the agitation will continue till the demands of bank employees are not redressed.
He informed that protest will also be held on May 29, followed by nation wide strike on May 30 and 31.
Wali called upon the members to be prepared for a protracted struggle for achievement of their legitimate demands.
The gathering was also addressed by Sham Lal Hans, President, SBISA, Chandigarh Circle, Satish Khajuria, President AIBOC J&K, Sandeep Gupta, Reg. Secy, Canara Bank Officers’ Association J&K and Romesh Trackroo, General Secretary, UCO Bank Officers’ Association J&K, etc.
