JAMMU, Mar 28: A massive protest demonstration of Bank employees was held today in front of the Punjab National Bank (PNB), Circle Office, Rail Head Complex, Bahu Plaza, Jammu, under the twin banner of AIBEA and AIBOA.
The protest was part of the series of protest programs against anti-labour policies of Government of India including the strikes on 28th and 29th March. The demonstration was addressed by Arun Kumar Gupta, general secretary, Jammu Province Bank Employees Federation.
Gupta informed the gathering that the 2 days continuous nationwide bank strike on March 28 and 29 by Bank employees is against the government’s anti-labour policies which are specifically targeting Public Sector Banks.
He projected demands of the Federation which include dis-allowing privatization of banks and banking reforms, ensure recovery of bad loans and take stringent action against defaulters, stop harassing customers with penal charges and increase in service charges, increase interest rates on deposits, stop attacks on jobs and job security, doing adequate recruitment in all banks and restore old pension scheme.
“Instead of further strengthening public sector banking, Government is weakening PSBs with their present policies by starving them of required capital, human resources, allowing private hands through disinvestment and proposed privatization moves.
Ashwani Pradhan, general secretary, AIBOA J&K and Tara Singh (president, JPBEF) also addressed the gathering and demanded strengthening of public sector banks by adequate infusion of capital, human resources and strengthening statutory framework to recover the stressed assets. He requested the Bank employees and common public to make the 2 days strike a grand success in entire J&K.
