Bangladesh can buy oil from India, not Russia: Minister Shahriar Alam

Dhaka, Sep 4 : Bangladesh Minister of State for Foreign Affairs Shahriar Alam said that
Bangladesh can import fuel oil from India and not from Russia.
He gave this information at a press conference organized on the occasion of the Prime Minister’s
visit to India at the Ministry of Foreign Affairs on Sunday.
Shahriar Alam said, “We are bringing electricity produced in India and the work of a large
industrial group power plant in India is nearing completion.” It will be inaugurated sometime
this year. But not Russia’s oil, we can take India’s oil.
The Minister of State for External Affairs said that a pipeline from the north-east of India has
been laid through Parvatipur. There could be a lot of cooperation in the field of energy. I will
know the details after the discussion. However, there is currently no plan to buy oil from any
third country through India.
He also said that many things can be discussed regarding energy cooperation with India during
the upcoming Prime Minister’s visit.
Incidentally, Bangladesh Prime Minister Sheikh Hasina will visit India from September 5 to 8. (Agencies)
