BANDIPORA, Sept 12: The Bandipora district of Kashmir witnessed yet another captivating ‘Bhand Pather’ performance of the current series at Hakbara where thousands of people from the adjoining villages came to witness this most entertaining production.
Today was the eighteenth show of the Bhand Pather performance series organised by Sangeet Natak Akademi and Natrang, Jammu with a mission to revive this great performing art tradition by giving the performance opportunity to Bhand Pather groups.
Speaking on the occasion Natrang Director Balwant Thakur said that best way to promote art is to give artists the opportunities of performance and an exclusive platform to demonstrate his/her creative abilities. In the current series over one thousand Bhand Pather performers have been given the performance opportunity and the present movement which has witnessed the largest ever community mobilisation has to be supported by all means to revive the cultural life of Kashmir. The shows are being coordinated and professionally assisted by Mohd. Yaseen, Majoor-ul-Haq, and Shaah-e-Jhan Ahmed Bhagat and all three are doing wonderful job in handling this massive artistic exercise.
Today’s play ‘Gate Manz Gaash’ written and directed by Ghulam Mohd Bhagat was presented by Alamdar Luk Pather Centre which thematically was one of the hard hitting satire on the contemporary situations. The lead character of the play is shown a well exposed person, educated and widely travelled. He lands in his village after completing his education from outside Kashmir. Finding people still in slumber, being exploited and fighting for petty interests, he pledges to bring them out from this world of darkness and ignorance. He shares and narrates his experiences of working with people having lot of positivity and progressive thoughts. His ideology is strongly resented by the local so called leaders of public finding that the day public will start seeing things with their own eyes; their ill designs will be exposed.
They oppose him strongly using all dirty political tactics like religious cards etc. But finally truth prevails. One by one everyone gets exposed before public and people also come to know about the reality behind every move of the so-called community leaders. The play successfully describes that let some light come to this world of darkness.
This wonderful theme was enlivened by highly talented Bhand performers, the prominent among them included Ghulam Mohammad Bhat, Mohammad Ramzaan, Sonaullah Bhat, Abdul Rashid, Abdul Rehman Bhat, Bilal Ahmed Bhat, Istiaq Ahmed Bhat, Javed Ahmed, Abdul Khaliq, Ghulam Ahmed, Tanveer Ahmed Bhat, Gulzaar Ahmed and Abdul Majeed.
