‘Despite FIR accused not produced in court’

Srinagar, Feb 5: The family members of a woman from Laharwal Pora in Bandipora who was allegedly murdered by her in-laws including her husband, today protested against police inaction in the case.
Scores of the family members assembled in the Press Enclave and raised slogans against the concerned police in the district for their inaction in arresting all the accused in the alleged murder case as well as failing in producing them in the court despite FIR.
The family members told Excelsior that their daughter Afroza, 22, was “murdered” by her in-laws along with her husband Shabir Ahmad Pahloo of Saderkoot Bandipora during the intervening night of 20-21December soon after her marriage in October this year.
“She was murdered because did not come with a dowry following which, her in-laws started harassing her within the 7 days of her marriage, and when that happened, we brought her back home to Laharwalpora,” Ghulam Mohiuddin, uncle of the victim said.
After that, the concerned elders from Saderkoot reached her home and persuaded her parents to send their daughter back to Saderkoot.
“They said they would be responsible if her in-laws try to resort to the same behaviour; they gave us that in writing, which prompted us to send her back,” he said.
To her bad lack, she was found dead in her room, apparently strangulated, only a few days after the assurances that her family was given. “She was found dead with no one around and was strangulated using a scarf,” the family said.
After that, an FIR was registered into the matter and the body was sent for the post-mortem, however, since December, the report of the post-mortem has not been shared with the family, while as the police have also failed in arresting all the accused in the matter.
“The police have even failed in producing the accused in the court; so far, police have arrested the husband of Afroza along with his father Nazir Ahmad Pahloo and another brother, while his mother and two sisters have not been nabbed so far despite FIR against them, neither is police telling us anything in detail,” Ghulam Mohiuddin said.
The family said that they want justice to be done and appealed the higher-ups to pull up the concerned police officials for “deliberate delay” in the case.
