JAMMU, Aug 30: The bandh call given by some organisations in Jammu region seeking continuation of Art 35-A in the J&K state evoked mixed response as Rajouri, Poonch, Kishtwar and some other towns observed partial bandh today.
Reports said that in Rajouri town, the people from one community observed bandh while movement of traffic on the roads was by and large normal. A brief protest was also held by some people near Gujjar Mandi Chowk but no untoward incident was reported in the town.
While bandh call had no impact at Sunderbani, Nowshera and Kalakote; Budhal, Kotranka and Thannamandi towns by and large observed complete bandh.
Poonch town also witnessed partial bandh over Art 35-A today. Haji Market near Poonch Fort remained closed while most of the other shops in the town remained opened. The movement of vehicular traffic was also witnessed on the roads. Most of the Government schools also remained closed.
There was no bandh in Mendhar town of district Poonch, however, Surankote and Mandi observed complete bandh. In Surankote, the Bar Council and members of some other organizations jointly took out protest march in the main market. The protesters also raised slogans in support of 35-A. Some activists forced closure of some shops, however, there was no violence or any untoward incident in the area. In the evening, the people however, opened the shops there.
The District Administration Rajouri and Poonch had deployed additional police and paramilitary force men to control the situation sensing trouble during bandh. However, the situation remained peaceful in the twin border districts. There is bandh call for yet another day in these two districts by the same groups tomorrow.
Meanwhile, Kishtwar town also observed one community bandh over Article 35 A. The majority community members took out protest march and forced closer of the shops of the other community in the main market. However, the police intervened at several placed and prevented them to do so. The vehicles of Machail Mata Yatra were also stopped by some activists near the town but the pilgrims held protest against local Administration and later, the vehicles were allowed to move. Many schools also remained closed due to bandh call today.
